Larry C. Kilgore, MD, FACS, FACOG

Larry Clinton Kilgore, MD, is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville where he serves as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Division Director, Gynecologic Oncology. In these and previous roles, he has received a long list of academic appointments and remained active with both program and curriculum development, as well as, receiving many awards for excellence in medical education. He believes that he is “blessed’ to serve as Department Chair with the task of training the next generation of providers, leading research efforts and advancing the health of the women of Tennessee and surrounding areas.”
Dr. Kilgore earned his medical degree at The University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences following which he completed an Internship and Residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as Administrative Chief Resident during his 4th year in residency. He completed his Fellowship, also at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and received The American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship Award during his fellowship.

He is active in numerous professional committees, organizations and societies, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, as well as the International Gynecological Cancer Society. Dr. Kilgore has participated in several NCI Study Section Memberships.
Dr. Kilgore’s editorial appointments include the Journal of American Cancer Society, the American Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, the Journal of Surgical Oncology, eHealth Magazine and more. He has produced an extensive list of publications and participated in numerous research consortiums. Books and book chapters have addressed gyn cancers and surgical procedures. He has written more than 100 journal articles and 100 research abstracts. Topics range from cancer screening guidelines to treatment strategies in multiple gyn malignancies to innovative surgical procedures, complications and outcomes.
Dr. Kilgore’s research focuses primarily in the areas of women’s cancers of the ovaries, uterus and cervix. His mission is to “provide the highest quality care, educate patients, and advance cancer care through clinical research.” He currently participates, and has participated, in numerous clinical trials, studies and NCI funded cancer research. He is a member and Principal Investigator in the NRG Cooperative Group, exploring both patient and provider perspectives in ongoing cancer research.
