Eye and Vision Changes
Ocular toxicities, commonly referred to as eye and vision changes, can occur because of cancer or treatment, including surgery, radiation therapy and drug therapies (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy).
Symptoms can include blurred or distorted vision, blind spots, eye pain or redness, itchy or bulging eyes, light sensitivity, vision changes, new floaters and even feeling like you have an eyelash caught in your eye.v
What causes eye and vision changes?
Radiation therapy that is delivered close to the eyes can sometimes damage the retina and optic nerve, leading to vision loss. Some drug therapies, such as immunotherapy, can cause inflammation of different parts of the eye.
When do eye and vision changes typically occur?
Vision issues from radiation therapy and drug therapy can appear up to 18 months after treatment begins. Some may be permanent.

Over-the-counter eye drops can help with lubrication, and using a mild heat compress over the eyes for 10 minutes can provide relief. You are encouraged to talk with your health care provider for other suggestions.
